Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2320 Hunters Woods Plaza, Reston, will present Carol Choir Play and the annual Christmas potluck with the singing of Christmas carols, on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m.

Christmas Eve services will be held at 7 and 10 p.m. for a holy communion and candle lighting ceremony.

The church will hold a Service of holy communion on Sunday, Dec. 28 with Christmas lessons and carols at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Call 703-860-1757.

St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 1700 Wainwright Drive, Reston, will hold three services of Holy Eucharist on Christmas Eve, at 4, 8 and 11 p.m. The 4 p.m. service will feature a children's musical called "A Star is Born." The 8 p.m. service will feature St. Anne's Front Porch Singers. A Festal Eucharist at 11 p.m. will be preceded by a performance of "Come to the Manger," a Christmas cantata arranged by Mark Hayes at 10:30 p.m.

There will be one service on Christmas Day at 10 a.m.

Harvest Christian Fellowship, 1948 Isaac Newton Square West in Reston will hold a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. Contact the church at 703-834-8100.

The United Christian Parish of Reston (UCP) has been honored by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for 30 years of community and global involvement.

The supervisors presented a plaque to UCP and passed a resolution commending the church for its “service and commitment to the Reston community as well as missions in foreign lands.” The resolution noted that the church has “contributed to the quality of life in the Reston community” and has become “a national ecumenical model,” as it combines four distinct denominations: the United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church USA, United Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ.

UCP was a founder of the Reston Interfaith social services organization and the annual Works Sunday program and is involved in a mission project in Rwanda.

Accepting the plaque on behalf of the parish were the Rev. Suzanne P.M. Rudiselle, former pastor, who recently retired and was separately recognized for her 15 years of service as pastor; Billie P. Sutter, director of Christian education; Sue Stewart, moderator of the Parish Board; and Barbara Bonner, lay leader.

Hunter Mill District Supervisor Catherine Hudgins presented the motion to the board and assisted in the Dec. 8 presentation.

The United Christian Parish of Reston will be celebrating the birth of Jesus at four services on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24, at its Redeemer building at 11508 North Shore Drive, next to Lake Anne Elementary School.

The services will be at 5, 7, 9 and 11 p.m. The 5 p.m. service will be a family-friendly service well-suited for children; 7, 9 and 11 will be candlelight services with the celebration of Holy Communion at the 11 p.m. service. All will feature special musical programs by various voice and bell choirs.

At the 5 p.m. service, young handbell ringers and the confirmands (young people about to join the church) will assist in leadership. "The Manger Seen" will merge a living manger scene created by costumed children with a Creche prepared by a family. Traditional carols and special music will highlight the service. Child care will be available for infants, while all other children are invited to attend this service. Visitors are invited to attend any of the services.

Northern Virginia Herbrew Congregation (NVHC) will hold its annual Chanukah service on Friday, Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. The first night candles will be lit and the holiday celebrated with a sermon in song led by NVHC’s choir, Kol Shirah. Choir director, Carol Fram, and 25 choristers will be accompanied by Terry Sisk at the piano and clarinetist Rob Sherwin in a medley of traditional and new Chanukah favorites. Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2300 Hunters Woods Plaza, Reston, will hold its annual Christmas Potluck on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m. The Children of the Carol Choir will present "The Unfriendly Beasts." Bring a main dish and a salad or dessert for 8-10 people. The evening will conclude with decorating and lighting the sanctuary tree and carols.

Christmas Eve will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 24 at 7 and 10 p.m. Two candlelight services will feature luminaries, special seasonal music and refreshments between services.

Families are invited to share their family crèche on Sunday, Dec. 28. Tables for display will be set up at the church. Special holiday treats will be served.

On Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, the church will present the Epiphany Puppets who will lead worship in celebration of the new year. A "Kings Cake" follows the service.
