Two small fires set in the stairwell of an apartment building at 9140 Richmond Highway resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old man Sunday, Dec. 7.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department investigators charged Louis Llerena, no fixed address, for setting a fire capable of spreading and for burning or destroying a dwelling. The first is a Class 6 felony and the second is a Class 3 felony.
The fire caused damages totaling $500, according to departmental spokespersons. Llerena was held at Fairfax County Adult Detention Center pending a preliminary hearing.
Class 3 felonies can convey a term of life imprisonment or for any period not less than five years and a fine of not more than $100,000. A Class 6 felony can convey a term of no less than one year or more than five years and/or a fine of not more than $2,500.
No date has been set for the preliminary hearing, according to the department.
