Vienna Presbyterian Church is embarking on its second year of CenterPoint, an adult Christian education program. You will find a challenging cadre of classes on the Bible, Church History and Theology, Ethics and Christian Living, and Spirituality and the Arts beginning September 14 and extending over four terms through the end of March 2004. Classes will be taught at the church by VPC staff, university, seminary, business and non-profit organization professionals.
Centerpoint is an academic center with a strong, scholarly basis and innovative curriculum. Expert faculty from local universities, seminaries, area churches, business and non-profit organizations offer adults a better understanding of Christian teachings and how to apply them to their everyday lives.
Among the 23 courses offered are What to Say When You Don't Know What to Say, Healthcare and End-of-Life Issues, Parenting for Peace and Justice and Business Ethics.
Classes are offered in five week terms on Sunday and Tuesday evenings. Registration is required and there is a fee of $25 per course.
Holy Transfiguration Melkite Greek-Catholic Church will be holding a Middle Eastern Food Festival from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30 and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31. The festival will feature Middle Eastern Food, sweets, music and entertainment, Middle Eastern dance demonstrations, children's games and events, backgammon tournament, Middle Eastern tent, vendors, silent auction, icon shop and church tours. Chabad at Tysons is holding a Shabbat educational service at the Embassy suites Hotel on Route 7 (next door to the Toys R' Us, across from the Container store). Saturday morning service starts at 9:30 a.m., Torah discussion at 10:30 a.m., followed by a sit-down Kiddush. This week's Kiddush is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Tyler Kimball.
