The almost 200 members of the Herndon High School Marching Band, the "Pride of Herndon," opened the 2003 band camp on Aug. 11 with almost 200 members. Rehearsals are being held twice a day at Herndon High School through Aug. 28. Band camp finishes on Thursday, Aug. 28 when the band performs their 2003 show for parents, family and the community. Herndon High School will hold a Volunteer Fair, Tuesday-Thursday, Aug. 26-28. Businesses and organizations with jobs for volunteer high school students are invited to set up during the time students pick up their school schedules. Jobs can be ongoing or just a one-time need. Christopher Robinson, son of Deborah Sulkovsky of Herndon and Steve Robinson of Amissville, Va., has successfully completed the Summer Cadet Program at Massanutten Military Academy. Robinson was named to the summer honor roll, the top English 8 student and received a good conduct ribbon.
The National Honor Roll recognizes high-achieving middle and high school students. Only students with a B or better average are eligible. This year, 68 percent of the inductees averaged an A- or better and 32 percent averaged B-B+. This recognition allows students to apply for thousands of dollars in scholarship money otherwise unavailable to the public.
