Randolph-Macon Academy has announced the start of the Eagle Scholars program, a scholarship opportunity for new boarding students who apply to the academy by Aug. 15. To qualify, the candidate must be a boarding student entering grades six through 10 this fall and have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or better during the last school year. Winners will receive a $5,000 annual scholarship for as long as they remain at the academy and maintain a 3.5 grade point average.

Michael Dempsey, son of Carla Dempsey of Fairfax, received the Outstanding Student in Algebra II award on July 24 at Randolph-Macon Academy. Michael attended Randolph-Macon Academy's summer program from June 29 through July 25. The program offers students the opportunity to take new or repeat courses for high school credit. Randolph-Macon Academy is a college-preparatory, coeducational boarding school located in Front Royal, Va.

Sadia Latifi of Hayfield Secondary School was selected to attend this year’s Governor’s School for Humanities at the University of Richmond. Each summer, 400 students who have exhibited exceptional ability in particular disciplines are invited to participate in either the Governor’s School for Humanities or for Visual and Performing Arts. The intensive, four-week program of classes, workshops, field trips and special events is designed to encourage individual growth and excellence. The school took place June 29 through July 26.

Newington Forest Elementary School alumni are asked to contact the school to help with the "Where are they now?" section of the alumni book to be distributed at the school's 20th anniversary celebration on Nov. 16, 2-4 p.m., at the school. Alumni are asked to share their best memories, both of Newington Forest and since graduating, and give some information about their current lives.
