<bt>Midshipman Second Class Matthew Perri Crawford completed his Summer Midshipman Cruise aboard the USS McClusky, (FFG-41) on Friday, July 19. The highlight of the three-week training cruise aboard the "Mighty Mac" was a post call in Juneau, Alaska, over the Fourth of July weekend.
Crawford is a member of the Ohio State University Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. In June, he completed his junior year at the Ohio State University School of Engineering majoring in aerospace engineering, a five-year degree program. He has been a member of the NROTC Battalion since his sophomore year and was awarded an NROTC scholarship in the fall of 2002. Crawford is a graduate 2000 of West Springfield High School. He is the son of retired Navy Capt. Mary Perri Crawford of Springfield and the late Navy Cmdr. Keith E. Crawford.
Army National Guard Spec. Joseph J. Cormier has been activated and mobilized for deployment to an undisclosed overseas forward operating location to support the mission of Operation Enduring Freedom. The soldier is being deployed along with other reserve component members who are regularly assigned to the 229th Chemical Company, Roanoke, Va. Cormier is a chemical operations specialist who has served in the military for three years. He is the son of Carol L. Ladd of Skyles Way, Springfield and Paul E. Cormier of Emory Street, Sanford, Va. His wife, Jennifer, is the daughter of Lisa D. Shilling of Poor Mountain Road, Salem, Va. He is a year 2000 graduate of Salem High School.
