<sh>Adult Graduations
<bt>More than 125 adult students participated in the spring graduation ceremony of Fairfax County Public Schools adult high-school completion programs on Monday, Aug. 4, at Woodson High School. The FCPS Office of Adult and Community Education played host to the ceremony honoring the students, aged 18 to 70 years, for their successful efforts to achieve high school diplomas or equivalency certificates.
Three student speakers, each representing one of the programs, will told stories of their accomplishments and the obstacles they overcame to earn their high-school diplomas. Some have worked full-time and cared for children while attending classes; others began their studies in the English for speakers of other languages program and progressed through the required credit classes to complete their graduation requirements.
FCPS adult high school completion programs include the Woodson Adult High School, where students earn the Carnegie units needed for graduation; the traditional General Educational Development (GED) test; and the External Diploma program. During the past fiscal year, more than 5,000 county residents participated in the adult high-school completion program.
