Freshman Delegate Brian Feldman (D-15) was happy to pass a bill this session. “It was a modest, business friendly piece of legislation,” Feldman said. “I feel good that I was able to get it through.”
If the bill is signed, Maryland corporations will be able to communicate to their shareholders via e-mail and businesses will have expanded teleconferencing abilities. Feldman hopes this will help to get businesses to look at Maryland when deciding where to locate.
“They can say, ‘Hey, Maryland is in the 21st Century when it comes to technology,’” Feldman said.
A bill he would have liked to pass would have increased the percentage of energy purchased from renewable sources such as wind and solar power. “It would have really promoted the use of clean energy in our state,” Feldman said.
Although it did not make it out of committee, he plans to re-introduce it next year. “Probably, it was too ambitious to be taken up in a single year,” he said.
