Wilmer Omar Mejia-Mayen, 26, of 2612 Groveton St. in the Groveton area of Mount Vernon, has been charged with murder after an autopsy on a baby revealed she had died from blunt force trauma to the upper body.
Fairfax County police said Mejia-Mayen was taking care of his girlfriend's daughter, 16-month-old Sabrina Fernandez of 4449 Norfen Road in Baltimore, Md., while her mother went to the store. When the baby's mother returned to the home, she discovered the baby was unresponsive.
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded and transported the baby to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Mejia-Meyan is being held without bond at the Adult Detention Center.
