Twenty volunteers from the Lorton Station Community and other Lorton neighborhoods helped to collect litter from Pohick Creek over the weekend. Roger Logan of Lorton Station helped organize the cleanup project and arranged for distributing 400 flyers to the residents of the Lorton Station Community. The Mason neck Lions Club provided logistic support and supplies.
More than 30 bags of trash were collected by the volunteers who slogged along the muddy stream banks from the VRE Station and railroad bridge to the bridge at Lorton Road and cleaned a mile long section of Pohick Creek.
Ten youngsters from the Lorton Community Resource Center participated as volunteers from the Youth Activities Group. Steve Martin led this group of young volunteers in learning about caring for the environment while participating in this worthwhile community project.
