Robert Warren Pruess, 68, a long-time resident of Reston, died suddenly on March 28. He was returning home from a visit with an elderly relative in Des Moines, Iowa.
Pruess was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma and graduated from Ridgewood N.J. High School. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1957 and served in the supply corps with the 6th fleet.
After leaving the Navy, Pruess earned graduate degrees from George Washington and the University of Georgia pursuing a 28-year career in math education with Arlington County Public Schools.
Pruess is known for his involvement in various volunteer activities with youth soccer as a referee, Fairfax Inova Blood Donor Services, Meals on Wheels and the Nature Conservancy.
He leaves his wife, Ardis, of Orkney Springs, Va., three children, Jonathan Pruess, of Berryville, Va.; Megan Maslouhi, of Reston; and Suzanne Houtz, of Manassas; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Adams-Green funeral home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, on Thursday, April 3, from 6-8 p.m.
