Renewal Retreats
<bt>The Safe and Drug-Free Youth Section of the Fairfax County Public Schools will be hosting three, two-day community retreats to promote safe ad drug-free communities. The retreats will be held at the Fort Belvoir Officers' Club on Sept. 26 and 27, Oct. 8 and 9, and Nov. 7 and 8. The renewal retreats are funded by a federal Drug-Free Communities Support Grant awarded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
Seven school representatives, along with eight community members, from each school pyramid will take part in one of the two-day retreats. The goals are to strengthen the school-community coalition capacity, to provide coalitions with a wide range of strategies enabling them to undertake an underage drinking campaign or to address other major concerns identified in the 2002 Communities That Care youth survey.
In addition, a provision in the No Child Left Behind Act permits the Safe and Drug-Free Youth Section to apply for additional funds. The application for those funds will be available for review at the retreats.
