<ro>Skaters Head to Phoenix

<bt>Local ice-dancing pair Sarah Solomon of Silver Spring, Md., and Ben Cohen of Alexandria will be participating in the Sept. 19-21 Junior Grand Prix in Phoenix, Ariz. This will be their first international competition Cohen and Solomon qualified for this elite competition as a result of their gold medal placement at the U.S. National Championships earlier this year. The pair will compete against eight other international pairs.

Cohen and Solomon are coached by four-time International Team Member in Figure Skating, Scott Myers. Myers is figure skating director at SkateQuest Reston, where Cohen and Solomon practice.

The Phoenix Creative Group LLC, a Northern Virginia marketing communications firm has hired Nicole Kassolis as its new art director. Kassolis will oversee the conceptual and creative direction of client work including annual report design, advertising, sales and marketing materials, Web/interactive design, packaging, and all other creative endeavors undertaken by the Phoenix Creative Group. Kassolis comes to the Phoenix Creative Group with over 10 years experience in both print and interactive media.

Army Reserve Pvt. Gustavo A. Sequeria-Mercado, son of Martha L. and Gustavo A. Sequeira of Reston, has graduated from the unit supply specialist advanced training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va. Sequeria-Mercado is a 2001 graduate of South Lakes High School.

Nicholas Sibilla, a 12-year-old Reston resident, won the Museum of the Rockies' Living History Farm calf-naming contest during his summer stay at his grandparents' house. The brown bull calf will be known as "Little Mike," named for the museum's new bronze Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton, known as "Big Mike." The newly christened calf and its mother will be at the Living History Museum through the end of the season.
