Attempted Armed Robbery

On Sept. 8 at 10:35 p.m., a 56-year-old Rockville woman was pumping gas at a station on River Road in Bethesda when she was approached by a suspect. The suspect —described as a black male, in his 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds, wearing a sleeveless T-shirt, baseball cap with stocking over his face and dark pants — pointed a silver handgun at the victim and told her to stay calm. She ran away screaming. The attendant at the station looked up and saw the suspect running back towards Dorsey Road. No property was obtained.

Strong-Arm Robbery Arrest

According to police reports, a Richard Montgomery junior varsity football player was the victim of a strong-armed robbery that occurred near the school’s concession stand at the football field.

Police gave the following account of the incident: The 14-year-old victim was leaving practice when he saw one of his friends talking with four teen-aged males near the concession stand. When the victim approached, one of the teens demanded to see his silver chain with cross. The suspect then said he was taking it. He then threatened to hurt the victim if he didn’t hand over his watch.

The victim, fearing for his safety and being outnumbered, gave the items to the suspect.

The victim and a friend reported what had happened to their football coach, who called police. Officers responded and put out a radio lookout for the four suspects. At approximately 6 p.m., police said the suspect responsible for the robbery was placed under arrest and processed at the 1st District station.

The suspect, whose name is not being released because he is a minor, was charged with Strong Armed Robbery, and released into the custody of his mother.
