Virginia State Trooper C. Mark Cosslett's funeral was held Monday in Annandale at the Immanuel Bible Church . Cosslett was killed last Wednesday when he was thrown from his motorcycle.
Cosslett was responding to a report of shots fired in the Newington area of Interstate 95 and was traveling on the southbound shoulder when a tow truck traveling in the right lane came upon congestion and veered to the right in front of Trooper Cosslett. Cosslett was pronounced dead at the scene.
Charges are pending against the 30-year-old Dumfries truck driver.
A 16-year veteran of the State Police, Cosslett was married with two young children. The family lived in Alexandria. He was a native of Chesterfield County.
Trooper Cosslett was active in many motorcycle organizations and charitable work. He was a top performer within the State Police and made numerous drug seizures in the course of his duty.
