Four teenage sisters swoon over the same teenage boy. This is either a recipe for disaster — or the story of "Little Women."
Fortunately, for the females involved, the drama is part of "Little Women," the stage adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel. Paul VI Catholic High School will be putting on a production of this classic on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. in the Reverend Heet auditorium at Paul VI High School.
Rehearsals for "Little Women" began a few weeks ago. Marie Weigle and Evan Sisley play Jo March and Laurie, the leads in the show. Weigle and Sisley are long-time friends through the Paul VI theater department. Their chemistry as friends translates to the stage.
Many of the students cast in the production make their main stage debut with "Little Women." Angela Conrad, a junior cast as Beth, has never appeared in a major Paul VI production before. Jackie Lacot (Amy) and her understudy Kelly Cram are both underclassmen breaking into the drama department. Neither of them expected to get a part at auditions, and now they're working to memorize lines and get to know their characters.
Sue Hughson, the Paul VI director, double cast the three major roles (Jo, Amy, and Laurie). The understudies (Ashley Bunce, Kelly Cram, and Brad Dutton) will be able to perform for the audience in the roles on Saturday night. Hughson orchestrated this so that the understudies who put so much effort into the production would have a chance to be in the spotlight as well.
Tickets will go on sale early in November. Large groups will be able to buy tickets at reduced prices. To reserve tickets for the Paul VI production, call Paul VI at 703-352-0925.
