The Artisans in McLean are hosting a wearable art show and sale called "Baby, It's Cold Outside," Oct. 10-Nov. 2. Featured will be original handcrafted outerwear including coats, jackets, sweaters and accessories. A dozen local fiber artists are participating. They are Gloria Barbre, Sylvia Dudycha, Candace Edgerley, Julie Geschwind, Joyce Keister, Ann Liddle, Nimi Rao, Barbara Rushworth and Elena Stamberg. Also included is Bonnie Aitken, who has appeared in several craft shows. An opening reception will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, from 5-8 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by Esther Haynes, accompanied on guitar by Phil Mathieu. Light refreshments will be provided. During the run of the show, The Artisans will be accepting donations of nearly new professional women's clothing, shoes and fashion accessories for the Washington, D.C.-based organization Suited for Change. Secrets Of the Real (Or Faking It), an exhibition of paintings by Northern Virginia-based artists Patrick Kirwin and Sharon Moody, opens on Thursday, Oct. 17, and runs through Saturday, Nov. 30. The exhibit is featured at DEGA Gallery, 8100 Old Dominion Drive, McLean. Both artists are fully versed in traditional approaches to realism as well as trompe l’oeil, a French technique that means to "deceive the eye" A reception for the artists takes place on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 5-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The McLean Photography Club meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month from September to May at the McLean Community Center, located at 1234 Ingleside Ave. in McLean. Programs include speakers, monthly workshops, field trips and seasonal parties. Amateur to expert photographers are welcome. "Living in Northern Virginia" is the theme of the ValeArts Group Seventh Annual Fall Art Show, which will be held at the historic Vale Schoolhouse in Oakton, Oct. 4-6. Call 703-860-1888.

"Six Designing Women in the Grove," an art exhibit and sale presented by six local artists, will be held from Friday, Oct. 18, through Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Pleasant Grove Church, located at 870 Lewinsville Road in McLean. The gallery will be open each day between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and will have the artists demonstrating techniques in one of their mediums. "Visual Interpretation" is the theme for the new Vienna Arts Society Gallery Show through Saturday, Nov. 2. The show will feature local artists who are participating Gallery members. The artists will work in watercolor, oils, acrylic and more. The Gallery is located at 513 Maple Ave. in Vienna in the Village Green Shopping Center. The hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Great Falls Arts Center will hold classes in drawing, painting, pottery and sculpture at the Walker Road Studio in Great Falls for all ages. Teens, adults and seniors can learn oil painting on canvas. Registration is ongoing. For a schedule of classes, call 703-759-3867.
