The American Horticulture Society celebrated 80 years of making America "a nation of gardeners and a land of gardens," at an anniversary gala last Saturday evening, Sept. 28, at George Washington's River Farm. Over 375 guests attended this year’s gala celebrating "the garden as art."
Throughout the gardens and vistas, frames were placed to alter the perspective of the viewer into seeing the art of the garden. Three artists — Dorothy Gillespie, Tomas Fernandez and Jeanne Drevas — loaned outdoor sculptures to enhance the gardens. The guests enjoyed cocktails and music in the gardens before dinner. Money raised in the live and silent auctions will be used for the maintenance and restoration of River Farm.
