The Herndon High School organization, Students Against Global Abuse (SAGA) took home first prize in the 2002 Best Paper Recycling Award from the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) Friday, National Recycling Day.
The SAGA program, which originated at the school in 1989, has grown to encompass more than 25,000 Northern Virginia students and 275 schools, churches, libraries and businesses. SAGA took top honors in the schools and institutions category, and became the first high school in America to win such an award. Previous winners were all colleges and universities, said a spokesman for the AF&PA.
