Mitchell E. Wangsgard has entered basic cadet training at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., in preparation to enter the first academic year at the academy. Wangsgard is the son of John and Melissa Wangsgard of Oakford Drive in Springfield. He is a 2002 graduate of West Springfield High School.
Rico E. Ocasio has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. He is the son of Johnny and Lourdes Ocasio of Birchtree Court, Springfield. Ocasio graduated in 1998 from West Springfield High School and received a bachelor's degree in 2002 from James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va.
Army Reserve Lt. Col. John V Sylvester IV has graduated from the U.S. Army War College Distance Education Class at Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle, Pa. The college is the Army's senior educational institution. Sylvester is a director of academics assigned to the Judge Advocate General's School, U.S. Army, Charlottesville, Va. His wife, Gina M. Maybury, resides on English Ivy Court in Springfield. The colonel earned his law degree from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
