<sh>Old Reston Avenue Finished

<bt>Local officials were on hand for a ribbon-cutting last Tuesday morning to open Old Reston Avenue after a series of road improvements. Improvements include the addition of sidewalks on both sides of the street, brick-like crosswalks and additional lighting and landscaping. The road section runs from Temporary Road to Sunset Hills Road. On hand for the ribbon-cutting were state Sen. Janet Howell (D-32nd), Board of Supervisors chairman Katherine Hanley (D-At-Large) and Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins (D). Old Reston Avenue is designated a Virginia Byway. The improvements were made to preserve the road's historic and pedestrian-friendly nature.

<sh>Higgins Clark to Visit Reston

<bt>On Wednesday June 19, 7 p.m., Mary Higgins Clark will visit the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in the Spectrum Center, 1851 Fountain Drive. Higgins Clark will be discussing her new book, "Mount Vernon Love Story — A Novel of George and Martha Washington." The historical novel is a departure from the author's standard fare. She has previously written 21 suspense novels. "Mount Vernon Love Story," originally titled "Aspire to the Heavens," was Higgins Clark's first book, published in 1969. It was recently discovered by a Washington family descendent who led to the reissue. The Barnes and Noble event is free and open to the public.

<sh>Terraset Principal Retiring

<bt>On Saturday, June 8, there will be a retirement celebration for Terraset Elementary principal Carol Bradley. The celebration will take place at the school, located at 11411 Ridge Heights Road, in Reston. The event will run from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of gifts, donations may be made to the Carol Bradley Scholarship Fund, c/o Judy Lombardo, Terraset Elementary.
