<sh>Update on Ashley

<bt>Ashley Dubey, the 5-year-old Centreville girl struck by a hit-and-run driver, May 2, on Old Centreville Road, remains in critical condition at Inova Fairfax Hospital. A kindergartner at Bull Run Elementary, she sustained a severe head injury in the accident.

<sh>New Bank Gets OK

<bt>If all goes well, Chevy Chase Bank will build a new bank in Centreville. It received a green light, last week, from the Fairfax County Planning Commission and goes before the county Board of Supervisors on June 17.

Chevy Chase's plan calls for a bank with drive-through window and two, drive-through ATM bays. It would be constructed on the northwest corner of the Burger King lot at Route 28 and Old Centreville Road in Centreville.

No tube system is planned for the drive-throughs, just ATM machines. The ATM bays would be on the building's southern end, between the bank and the Burger King. Bank hours would be Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

The bank's entrance would face Westview Drive, with customers accessing it off Old Centreville Road. And the bank would improve Westview Drive, itself, into a higher-quality road. Chevy Chase needs the county's approval for a special-exception permit for the drive-throughs. It got a step closer, last Wednesday, May 15, with the thumbs-up from the Planning Commission.
