Three public information forums are scheduled for public discussion and feedback on the proposed Board of Education policy that would allow non-government funds to be used for facility improvements among Montgomery County Public Schools. The three forums are scheduled on Thursday, May 23, at Thomas Pyle Middle School in Bethesda; Tuesday, June 18, at Sligo Middle School in Silver Spring; and Wednesday, July 10, at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School in Germantown. Each forum begins at 7 p.m. Information about the background of the proposed policy will be provided at the forums by the school system’s Department of Facilities Management.
The proposed policy, “Facility Improvements That Are Not Funded with Montgomery County Revenues (CNE),” would permit the use of non-governmental funds for school facility improvements that support an individual school, supplement architectural or aesthetic enhancements to the facility and/or enhance community use of the school, such as equipment improvements.
The Montgomery County Board of Education has scheduled a public forum on Policy IKA, “Grading and Reporting,” to provide an early opportunity for input from parents, students and staff as revisions are considered. The forum is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, in the auditorium of the Carver Educational Services Center at 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville.
It will be conducted in two sessions, one running from 3-5:30 p.m. and a second one from 7-9 p.m. Individuals wishing to speak at the forum may call 301-279-3617. Each individual will be allotted three minutes to speak and will speak in the order that calls are received.

Lauren Archer of Rockville has been awarded a full tennis scholarship to attend Rice University in Houston, Texas. The Sidwell Friends School senior was undefeated in her four years and finished by winning the Inter Scholastic League Singles Championship in first position.
Michael Dirksen of Bethesda, a senior majoring in drama, performed in the Syracuse University Drama Department’s recent production of “The Man of La Mancha.” Dirksen played Dr. Carrasco in the play.
Juliana Cole, an Earlham College first-year student and daughter of Timothy and M. Judith Cole of Potomac, performed in the school’s Spring Choral Concert on April 20 in Goddard Auditorium. Cole is a member of A Cappella, Madrigal Singers and Concert Choir. Earlham is located in Richmond, Ind.
Benjamin Feldman of Potomac, a student majoring in acting and a graduate of Winston Churchill High, was cast in “MacBeth” and “A Boy’s Life” at Ithaca College in New York. He also performed at the Firehouse Theatre, the Hangar Theatre and the Kitchen Theatre.
