Arlington County officials and representatives of AHC Inc., Arlington’s affordable housing non-profit, joined residents of The Berkeley on Saturday, May 4, for a ribbon-cutting to mark the apartment building’s grand reopening. Originally built in 1960, the building was purchased by AHC in late 2000, and opened this month after six months of renovations. AHC invested some $12.5 million in the building, joining its own funds with financing from federal, state and county sources. Arlington County Board Chair Chris Zimmerman (D) and U.S. Rep. James Moran (D-8) joined residents Ruth and Rachel Hagy, Tequilla Williams, and 41-year Berkeley residents Edward and Mariam Murphy in cutting the ribbon, marking the building’s reopening. "We have to support the creation and renovation of places like the Berkeley," Moran said. "Let’s make sure we have more Berkeleys throughout the community."
