Running & Walking - All for Good Causes

Hundreds of people walked and ran this past weekend - both for fitness and for good causes.

ON SATURDAY, ABOUT 180 RUNNERS participated in the Sandburg Pantherlon 5K, which was held at Carl Sandburg Middle School. Lyssa Seward was the race organizer and said that she hopes to take in about $2,000 from the run, money that will used for the school's PTA activities.

Ted Poulos, from McLean, was the winner for the fourth year in a row. Race results have been published on www.racepacket.com. A list of the awards received by Sandburg students will be published next week.

ON SUNDAY, ABOUT 200 WALKERS took part in Walk for Life 2002 at Fort Hunt Park. Sponsored by Catholic Charities, this is the 19th annual Walk for Life held here and at two other sites. Money raised from the walk is used to help support the work of children's services of Catholic Charities. Local parishes publicized the event and sponsored their priests who walked. Parishioners from Good Shepherd Catholic Church pledged $2200 to sponsor their parish priests — the Rev. George J. Griffin, the Rev. Ronald S. Escalante, the Rev. Jesús Navattete and Deacon Tom White.
