On Tuesday, May 7, Town of Herndon registered voters will have the opportunity to shape the town's direction. For the first time in 14 years, two sitting incumbents on the Town Council are seeking the mayor's office: William "Bill" Tirrell, Sr. and Richard "Rick" Thoesen.
There are also eight candidates seeking the six Town Council seats: Mayor Carol Bruce, incumbent councilmen John De Noyer, Dennis D. Husch, Michael L. O’ Reilly and Harlon Reece, as well as challengers Judith Downer, Connie Hutchinson and David A. Kirby.
The last town election, held in May of 2000, saw 1,577 Town of Herndon registered voters cast a ballot — 18 percent of the then roughly 9,500 registered voters.
The polls are open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7. Voting takes place at the Herndon Community Center on Ferndale Avenue.
