"Parenting Teens," is a class presented by the YMCA Bethesda Youth Services on Tuesdays, April 16-May 21, from 7-8:30 p.m. The class will seek to help improve parent/teen relationships and develop teen self-esteem and self-reliance. Who were T.S. Wootton and Richard Montgomery? Peerless Rockville will present a program on Tuesday, April 23, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. that will explain the contributions of two Americans who served in the American Revolution. Lori Rounds, technology coordinator, and Yvonne Pelaia, middle school French teacher, at The Woods Academy in Bethesda, have been selected as presenters at the Florida Educational Technology Conference to be held in Orlando, March 6-8. The will present the session "Using Digital Video to Enhance Student Listening/Speaking French."
Kate Luxner, a sixth grade Latin student from Holy Child, attended the second annual Capital Certamen on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Queen Anne School in Upper Marlboro. The Capital Certamen is a classics trivia game, in which teams of up to four players each compete against one another by answering questions about the Latin language, Roman history, culture and mythology. Kate not only participated as a competitor, but she and her father, Tom Luxner, were chosen to serve as spotters and scorekeepers while various teams advanced through all four rounds of competition.
Erika Esposito, a senior at Connecticut College, has been selected as a Housefellow for the 2001-2002 academic year. She is one of 21 students selected to serve as counselors and administer student activities in the dormitories. Esposito, a 1988 graduate of Walt Whitman High School, is the daughter of Daniel and Claudia Esposito and the granddaughter of Edward and Frederica Robicnek of Bethesda.

Sarah Yonker, a junior Spanish major and graduate of Thomas S. Wootton High School, has been named to the dean's list at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa.
Melissa Vicki Dorman of Potomac has been named to the dean's list at the University of Delaware for the fall 2001 semester. She achieved this honor with a grade point average of 3.33 or above. Dorman is a senior pursuing a degree in elementary education.
Karen Weaver of Potomac has made the dean's list at Lasell College in Newton, Mass. for the 2001 fall semester. Weaver is majoring in early childhood education.
Benedict Semmes, son of Dana and Guy Semmes of Potomac and a graduate of Churchill High, has been named to the dean's list at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY for the fall 2001 semester. He is currently studying Spanish history, literature and language in Madrid, Spain.
The Montgomery County Board of Education is seeking to fill one vacancy on its three-member Ethics Panel for a three-year term beginning on July 1, 2002. Applicants must be Montgomery County residents and will serve without compensation.
Among the panel's responsibilities are interpreting the Board of
Education's Ethics Policy and issuing advisory opinions concerning its
application; conducting hearings on any complaint filed regarding an alleged violation; approving financial disclosure forms; and directing the implementation of an educational program to inform school system employees and the public about the policy.
Panel members may not be incumbent members of the Board of Education, school officials, employees, or persons employed by a business entity subject to the authority of the Board of Education, or spouses of such persons.

Interages, an agency that develops intergenerational programming, is seeking volunteers age 55 and older to participate in two programs.
"Dialogues Across the Ages," will bring together seniors and high school students on a wide range of topics. The program consists of eight once-a-week sessions.
"ASAP (After School Activities Program) needs mentors to work one-on-one with students on reading and communication skills. Volunteers will meet once a week with an elementary student in a group setting. An orientation is provided.

'Blast from the Past,' Winston Churchill High School's 13th annual rock music revue, features more than 200 students as band members, technical crew, singers and set designers. Showtimes are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on April 19, 20, 26 and 27 and 2 p.m. on April 20 and 27. Show organizers estimate that 6,000 to 7,000 tickets will be sold for the production's six performances.
The theme of this year's show, "United We Rock," will highlight American music as well as honor America and its heroes. The musical numbers includes songs from the 1950s, the disco period, country music and the Motown era.
