Lowenberg Joins Hopkins & Porter
Bethesda resident Todd M. Lowenberg has been named new project coordinator at Hopkins & Porter Construction, 12944-C Travilah Road in Potomac. Todd joins the company with more than 20 years sales experience in telecommunications. Silverman Initiative for Affordable Housing
Montgomery County Council President Steven Silverman has proposed an initiative to use land already owned by the county to construct affordable housing, in partnership with private and nonprofit developers. Speaking at the Eleventh Annual Affordable Housing Conference on Feb. 25, Silverman noted the 11 percent increase in apartment rents in the county and the increasing need for people who work in the county to live elsewhere, creating more traffic problems.

Montgomery Preservation, Inc. is seeking nominations for this year's historic preservation awards, which honor individuals and groups that have made significant contributions to the preservation or restoration of historic resources in the county during the past year. Anyone can nominate an individual or group for an award. The deadline for nominations is March 31.
