Alexandria City detective Frank Schoenle, 47, was arrested last week for driving while intoxicated and causing an accident in Mount Vernon.
Fairfax County police arrested Schoenle following an accident on Telegraph Road near Wilton Road in the Huntington area. Police said that last Tuesday at around 2:15 a.m., Schoenle was driving his 1998 Jeep southbound on Telegraph Road when his Jeep crossed the double yellow line and side-swiped a 1996 Nissan traveling in the northbound lanes. That car was driven by Ernest Mullins, 32, of Arlington.
Schoenle's Jeep continued across all northbound lanes traveling southbound along the northbound shoulder until it struck a fence in the 6000 block of Wilton Road and came to rest upside down. Mullins and a passenger in the Nissan were not injured.
Schoenle was transported to the Adult Detention Center where he was formally charged.
Schoenle was placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation by the Alexandria Police Department.
