Malicious Wounding

Fairfax County Police arrested Chiu Chung, 52, of 5620 Magnolia Lane in the Alexandria area, charging him with malicious wounding after an incident that occurred at the China Kitchen Restaurant, located at 7022 Brookfield Plaza in the Springfield area, last Tuesday at around 10:30 p.m.

Chung and another man began to argue over a personal matter. The argument escalated and Chung punched the victim in the face, according to police. When the victim pushed Chung away, he grabbed a knife and began to chase the victim, cutting him in the shoulder. The victim was treated at the scene. Chung was transported to the Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

Stores Hit By Alcohol Sting

Forty five attempts, nine hits. That was the result of an alcohol sting June 15 within the Franconia District, conducted by the Franconia Community Policing Unit.

The sting was part of the Youth Alcohol Campaign and was conducted using under age Fairfax County police cadets. Those cadets were dressed in plain clothing and then went out attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages.

Of the 45 attempts to buy alcohol, nine businesses were cited by police. They were T.G.I. Fridays, 6751 Frontier Drive; Damon's 7025-B Manchester Boulevard; Canton Cafe, 6396 Springfield Plaza; Super High's, 7708 Richmond Highway; 7-Eleven, 7214 Beulah Street; Food Lion, 7760 Richmond Highway; Quick Stop, 9308 Gunston Cove Road; Rite Aid, 7100 Silver Lake Road; and Shoppers Food Warehouse, 7005 Manchester Boulevard.

The cadets attempted to buy alcohol at seven supermarkets including Giant, Safeway and Shoppers Food Warehouse. Only the two previously mentioned were cited.

Of all those locations targeted, 14 were convenience stores. The State ABC Store at 6402 Springfield Plaza was also targeted. It passed the test.

Armed Robbery

Fairfax County police are investigating an armed robbery which occurred in the 3300 block of Lockheed Boulevard at about 4 a.m., June 19. Police said an Alexandria area man and a San Francisco man were sitting in a parked car talking. A man approached the car, pulled out a gun and demanded money. The victims complied and the suspect fled the area.

The suspect is described as a black man, in his 20's, standing five feet, nine inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He had braided black hair.

Arrest Made After Chase

Marco Rodriguez, 30, of no fixed address is being held without bond following a car chase on Richmond Highway Sunday at about 11 p.m.

Fairfax County police arrested and charged Rodriguez for aggravated assault on a police officer, felony speed to elude and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Officer Clifford Armstrong of the Mount Vernon District Station saw a 1999 Suzuki Vitara that had just been reported stolen. Armstrong, with the help of other officers, stopped Rodriguez near Frye Road. As the officers attempted to arrest him, Rodriguez began to struggle and sped off in the vehicle, dragging Armstrong to the ground. As officers chased Rodriguez approaching Quander Road, Rodriguez ran over a "stop-stick" tire-deflating device deployed by officers. With two flat tires, Rodriguez eventually slowed down allowing the officers to arrest him near Fort Hunt Road. A short foot race ensued before Rodriguez was taken into custody.

Animal Cruelty is Charged

Todd Dixon, 41, of Mahoney Drive in the Lorton area, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty, June 21.

Fairfax County Animal Control officer Earwitt Powell went to Dixon's home to investigate a report of a mistreated dog. Inside the home, Powell found an adult male Rottweiller. The dog was suffering from a skin condition, which caused it to lose most of its hair. The dog was covered with large sores, was underweight, had a pus-like substance that almost closed its eyes and was infested with fleas. The dog was being kept in a room unfit for a dog.

The dog was seized and transported to the Belle Haven Animal Medical Center for treatment. A warrant was then obtained charging Dixon with animal cruelty. He was being held at the Mount Vernon District Station in lieu of $5,000 bond.

Dangerous Animal Charge Filed

Fairfax County Police Animal Control officers arrested Reginald Cross, 45, of 3501 Buckman Road in the Hybla Valley area, and charged him with owning a dangerous animal and unrestricted dog after an incident that occurred at about 5 a.m. last Sunday, June 16.

A 42-year-old man was walking to a friend's apartment building when a dog began to chase him. As he ran away from the dog, he fell and the dog bit h im on the right ear. The victim received medical treatment at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. The victim led police to Cross' house where he was charged on June 24.

The dog was quarantined pending a court hearing.
