Air Force Reserve Airman 1st class Anain J. Romero has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airmen studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Romero is the daughter of Dominga Delgado of Leesburg, Va. She is a 1984 graduate of Fairfax High School.
Army 2nd Lt. Makeda M. Conliffe has graduated from the Army Quartermaster Officer Basic Training Course at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Va. Conliffe is the daughter of Elsa L. and stepdaughter of Clifford Stuart of Springfield. Her father, Winfied A. Conliffe, resides in Stafford, Va.
Army Pvt. Ian J. Sheffield has graduated from the wire systems installer/multichannel communications equipment repairer course at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga. Sheffield is the son of Diane and Norman Jordan of Burke.
Air Force Airman Kevin M. Sucher, son of Anthony Sucher of Springfield and 2001 graduate of Annandale High School, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
Marine Corps Pfc. Alberto Reategui, son of Lita and Alberto W. Reategui of Burke, recently graduated from the Basic Hygiene Equipment Operator Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC. During the course, Reategui received instruction in basic plumbing, maintenance management, military water supply, water purification and hygiene equipment, and field sanitation. Reategui is a 2001 graduate of Lake Braddock High School of Burke, and joined the Marine Corps in August 2001.
Marine Corps Pvt. Joseph C. Dombek, son of Lynne S. and Michael P. Meade of Burke, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. Dombek successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Dombek is a 2002 graduate of Lake Braddock High School of Burke.
Air Force Cadet Jason T. Monaco, son of Gay Monaco of Fairfax Station, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. Monaco, a 1998 graduate of Lake Braddock Secondary School, Burke, was also as a second lieutenant. Monaco will attend graduate school to attain his masters in National Security Affairs at Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, Cal.
Brian J. Waterman, a 1997 graduate of Woodson High School, Fairfax, has joined the United States Army Reserve under the Delayed Training Program that gives men and women the opportunity to delay reporting for basic military training for up to 270 days.
Air Force Cadet James H. Hayes, son of Jim Hayes of Springfield and 1998 graduate of West Springfield High School, Springfield, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. Hayes was also commissioned as a second lieutenant and has been selected to attend the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program which is a 55-week training program sponsored by NATO.
Army Reserve Pvt. Rexford A. Otchere, son of Rosemond and stepson of Steven Drah of Springfield, has graduated from the automated logistical specialist advaced individual training course, Fort Lee, Petersburg, Virg. Otchere was trained to establish and maintain stock records and other documents such as inventory, material control and accounting and support reports.
Navy Ensign Michael E. Maier, son of Carol A. Maier of Burke and Robert A. Maier of Reston, recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., and was commissioned to his current rank in the U.S. Navy. Maier is a 1998 graduate of Lake Braddock Secondary School, Burke.
