A six inch gas line was severed by construction workers in the 600 block of Elizabeth Lane last week prompting the evacuation of 100 people from an office building at 2111 Eisenhower Ave.
Alexandria Fire Department officials said a total of four engines, two trucks a battalion chief and the chief fire marshal responded to the scene. In addition to the one evacuation, several other buildings in the area were monitored until the gas company could stop the leak.
It took about one and a half hours to get the leak plugged.
The fire marshal's office is still investigating the circumstances causing the gas leak. No injuries were reported.
