Plymouth Haven Baptist Church turned 50 last week. To celebrate, they threw a party and invited the community.
Linda and Brad Brown chaired the event which attracted about 400 people. Hot dogs were grilled, lemonade poured and cake served. In addition to two large bakery cakes, there were also homemade Bundt cakes made by the Sunday School ladies.
Guests were treated to music by various choir members, while children enjoyed pony and hayrides and a small petting zoo. Inside, guests read about the church’s beginnings and looked at a pictorial history, which was mounted on boards.
PARISHONERS and guests had the chance to visit with the new Reverend Tom Johnson, and his wife, Susan. Johnson came from North Carolina where he served at the second largest prison in that state. Prior to that, he was a Navy chaplain for 20 years. Brown said that she and the church members are very excited to have the Johnsons aboard.
During the celebration, the Johnsons got into the swing of things by joining the hayride, along with Senator Linda “Toddy” Puller (D-36) and Linda and Brad Brown. The tractor, pulled by a local farmer, was adorned with cut-out ponies, Doris and Daisy, made by Linda Brown. “You’ll be seeing them again,” said Brown, who’s anticipating the church holding a yearly Oktoberfest. There’s also talk about the possibility of the church creating a day care center in the near future.
