TJ Students Participate in London Forum
<bt>Five students from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology won the National Science Bowl competition in May and qualified to attend the International Youth Science Forum, which began July 24, in London, England.
Kay Aull, Jeffrey Cohen, Gregory Price, Gary Sivek and Steven Sivek were scheduled to attend lectures and seminars on scientific topics, present papers and participate in tours and social activities, along with students from 50 other countries during the two-week seminar. The group was also slated to visit industrial sites, academic research centers and other research facilities in London, Oxford and Cambridge.
The team from Jefferson defeated 63 regional champions to win the National Science Bowl.
<sh>Business and Technology Open House
<bt>The University of Virginia's Northern Virginia Center in Falls Church, will be hosting a Business and Technology Open House Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 5-7 p.m.
Information on the following programs will be available: certificates in procurement and contracts management, e-commerce, Web content development, accounting, human resources management, information technology, technology leadership, public relations, publishing and communications and information security management; master's degrees in five engineering disciplines, as well as an executive program in systems engineering; and professional development opportunities including online courses and certificates through eCollege, one-day technology boot camps and engineering review courses.

<sh>Education Information Night
<bt>The University of Virginia's Northern Virginia Center in Falls Church will be holding an Education Information Night aimed at people interested in pursuing a career in the field of education, Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 4:30-6 p.m.
There will be two presentations as well as several information sessions throughout the event.
The 4:30 p.m. presentation, "Touch a Life — Become a Teacher," is a free workshop providing information on the rewards, qualifications and expectations of a K-12 classroom teacher. The 6 p.m. presentation, "Make it Happen — Become a Teacher," is also a free workshop, which provides information about meeting the requirements to become a teacher, as well as the resources available.
The information sessions run from 5-6 p.m. and the topics include information on master's and doctoral degrees, special education, speech pathology, kinesiology, social foundations of education and reading.
