Most Successful Programs: Langley’s most famous program recently has been its girls swimming team, which took home four consecutive state championships over the last five winter seasons. Many believe it was the top program of any sport in Virginia over the last five seasons. The Saxons have traditionally had strong football, basketball, golf, lacrosse and soccer programs.
2001-02 Season: The Saxons won the Virginia AAA golf championship and the regional girls tennis crown in the fall and the Liberty District in wrestling in the winter.
Historic Achievements: Langley won regional football titles in 1991 and 1993, both as a Division 5 school. Not only did girls swimming dominate for four years as a team but its individual swimmers also hold several regional and state records.
Famous Athletic Graduates: You may not know her yet, but 2001 graduate Taline Tahmassian is a nationally ranked girls soccer player who won a NCAA championship with Santa Clara University last year.

Most Successful Programs: McLean has historically been strong in swimming, lacrosse, football and, especially in the 1970s, wrestling.
2001-02 Season: McLean went to the Virginia AAA state tournament in field hockey last fall.
Historic Achievements: Most of McLean’s fame has come on the gridiron. The Highlanders won the Northern Region title in 1995, a 23-7 win over West Potomac. Over the last 11 years, McLean appeared in the Division 5 championship game three times, most recently losing to Madison in 1996.

Most Successful Programs: The Statesmen are known for having historically strong football and baseball programs. The boys basketball program rose to prominence last season.
2001-02 Season: The Statesmen boys basketball team had an impressive run in the Northern Region, resulting in Kevin Weeren’s winning Region Coach of the Year.
Historic Achievements: Marshall’s football program was one of the best in the region in the mid-1980s. The Statesmen won back-to-back regional titles in 1986 and 1987. Marshall defeated the Mount Vernon Majors 21-0 in ‘86 and reeled in the Rebels of Fairfax, 12-6, in ‘87. Previously, the Statesmen came up two points shy of defeating Annandale in 1972, a year when the Atoms went on to win the state title. Marshall’s last appearance in the regional title game for football was in its 1988 loss to Yorktown. Marshall also took home a regional title in girls basketball back in 1976
Famous Athletic Graduates: Keith Lyle of the National Football League graduated from Marshall before heading to the University of Virginia. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2000, when his St. Louis Rams won the Super Bowl. The next season Michael McCrary of the Baltimore Ravens, another Marshall football star, won a ring of his own. Major League pitcher Pete Schourek, formerly of Cincinnati and currently of Boston, was also a Marshall grad.
