July 18, 2002
The Old Dominion Cotillion hosted its 11th annual debutante and benefit ball at the Westfields Marriott last Saturday. The Old Dominion Cotillion along with debutantes' parents presented nine young ladies to society.
Their debut was a culmination of the social season which has included a year of social, cultural, charitable and educational activities. The debutantes were escorted by cadets from the Virginia Military Institute. The Assembly also introduced three future debutantes who will debut in the coming year. In addition, post debutantes and alumni were introduced.
The 2001-2002 social season was planned to provide a variety of social settings and experiences for the young ladies. Each year the activities vary according to the interests and special talents of the Assembly members and culminate with Ball Week and the presentation of the debutantes.
As a commitment to social responsibility, each member of the Old Dominion Cotillion performs volunteer service at Oatlands Plantation. The young ladies said their experiences in the cotillion had prepared them well for their roles in school and in the world of work.
