Police Seek Help Identifying Burglary Suspects

Arlington police are seeking two suspects, wanted in connection with a break-in at a restaurant in North Arlington.

At 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, the two men broke into a restaurant in the 1200 block of Washington Boulevard. The subjects, both of whom appear to be white males in their late teens or early 20s, were captured on a surveillance tape. One suspect appears to be wearing a tight-fitting, dark-colored skull cap, a dark T-shirt and sideburns. The other suspect has brown hair, appears to have a goatee and is wearing a light-colored T-shirt.

Police say that an ongoing investigation has revealed that the suspects entered the restaurant by climbing onto the roof of the building and breaking in through a window. The two then removed a safe containing an undetermined amount of cash and exited the premises.

Anyone with information regarding the burglary should contact detective Bill Golab at 703-228-4175 or Arlington County Crime Solvers at 703-522-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest. Callers to Crime Solvers remain anonymous and do not need to testify in court.

Fisette Appointed to State Housing Board

In a wave of appointments last week, Gov. Mark Warner (D) announced the appointment of Arlington County Board member Jay Fisette to the Virginia Housing Development Authority Board.

The appointment of Fisette, who is gay, attracted some criticism from the Family Foundation of Virginia, a conservative Richmond-based group, which saw it as a step toward official support of homosexuality.

Dan Steen, chair of the Arlington County Democratic Committee, stated his support this week for Warner’s choice of Fisette. "We are disappointed by a recent press release from the Family Foundation of Virginia criticizing Mr. Fisette's appointment based solely on his sexual orientation, rather than on his leadership qualifications which merit his appointment."
