The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) has mailed more than 18,000 renewal notices to licensed landlords. Notices remind property owners that they must be licensed to offer residential property for rent.
The county rental facility licensing requirement applies to all types of residential rental properties, including apartment units, single-family detached homes, townhouses and accessory apartments.
Each landlord-tenant or housing code complaint received by DHCA is checked against the licensing database to be sure the property is properly licensed. Unlicensed property owners who are renting out their homes can be issued a civil citation which carries a $500 fine. Fines are used for a variety of landlord and tenant services.
The license year runs from July 1 through June 30, but landlords may apply for a license at any time. Fees range from $35-$95 and vary according to the type of license.

The Potomac Village office, 10230 River Road, was honored for generating the highest new homes dollar volume in the region in May. In addition, the entire Potomac Village sales team was recognized for producing the highest new homes dollar volume in the region in May.
