Erin Alpert, a rising senior at Langley High School, arrived June 23 in Harrisonburg to take part in the Virginia Governor’s Russian Academy at James Madison University to learn the language and culture of Russia. Participating students were selected through a statewide competition. The Virginia Department of Education sponsors six Governor’s Foreign Language Academies each summer.
