June is the month for dance recitals, and this year, the proximity to the Fourth of July offered an irresistible opportunity for a red, white and blue theme of patriotism to emerge when the McLean Conservatory of Ballet showcased its ballet students.

The aspiring ballerinas between 3 and 12 years of age practiced for their recital at Langley High School on a Saturday afternoon when they could have been out playing.

Instead, they were marching to “Stars and Stripes Forever,” concentrating on the position of their feet and arms.

The ballet school has classes at the Spring Hill Recreation Center but is planning to move into a studio in McLean this fall, said teacher and customer service representative, Natasha Colin.

In addition to ballet, the school also offers classes in tap, hip-hop, jazz, gymnastics and ballroom dancing. Classes are open to teenagers and adults as well as younger children, Colin said.
