Town of Herndon residents getting a knock on their door from Judy Downer won't need a pen.
She'll lend out hers in order to gather the necessary 125 signatures required to get her name on the ballot as a candidate for the Herndon Town Council.
"I'm circulating my petition. I've just started, and the snow hit — but the reaction has been positive," said the 36-year Town of Herndon resident and associate broker with Herndon Realty.
"People are urging me and others to run for mayor. I'm not running for mayor. I'm not interested in that office," said Downer who served on the Fairfax County Planning Commission from 1993-2001 as the Dranesville District representative.
"I think she should run," said current Councilman William B. "Bill" Tirrell, Sr. who himself is seeking reelection. "Judy brings a wealth of knowledge with her. She served on the Planning Commission and is very well versed in Town zoning issues. The town would benefit from having her on Council."
"I think I bring a lot to the council with my real estate and planning commission experience," said Downer. "I'm well rested after a year away from the county. I like public service. I look forward to serving the citizens. Unless something unforeseen happens, I intend to run."
