Kimberly Fitterer of Sterling graduated from Clemson University on Dec. 20 with general honors from the Calhoun Honors College. Fitterer majored in genetics and biochemistry and conducted research for her honors thesis on sequencing DNA and binding Diadensosine Triphosphate to the aortic cells of cows. She was also a member of Clemson Whitewater Club, where she served in the roles of secretary and vice president. Fitterer is currently in the process of applying to medical school, where she hopes to be a part of an MD/PhD degree program.

Kathleen and David Shultz, two local child care coordinators for EF Au Pair, have been selected to attend a national conference hosted by EF Au Pair in Denver, Colo. Gregory Thomas Luongo from Sterling was named on the dean's list at the University of Delaware for the fall 2001 semester.

The Oatlands board of directors has elected new officers for 2002. Stanley J. Rodimon will serve as the new chairman, Wayne L. Hughes will serve as vice president, Grenville T. Emmet III will serve as vice president, Douglas W. (Ann) Hunt will serve as secretary and Bradley J. Gable has been elected treasurer. Oatlands is a 261-acre, co-stewardship property of The National Trust for Historic Preservation. The property is located six miles south of Leesburg on U.S. Route 15.
