Three Olympic athletes came to T. C. Williams High School April 23, to speak to students about the importance of staying in school and about being “Champions In Life.”
Seven hundred students listened as speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno; luger, Becky Wilczac and Alpine skier, Jason Lalla, talked about the importance of staying in school and the commitment it takes to be a chamion.
The three were part of a U. S. Olympic Committee effort to reach out to students throughout the metropolitan area. Each of the athletes spoke about the Olympic experience and the importance of academics in future careers. Afterwards, students asked questions.
“It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to get an opportunity to see these athletes and talk to them,” said Barbara Hunter, the director of communications for the Alexandria City Public School system.
