The Arlington Summer Teen Expo will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at Washington-Lee High School, 1300 N. Quincy St. Sponsored by the Arlington Employment Center, the Expo will bring together local businesses and nonprofit agencies with teens in order to fill positions or internships. The event is free. Doug Bullock has been appointed principal of Ashlawn Elementary School, 5950 N. Eighth Road, effective July 1. Bullock currently serves as assistant principal at Randolph Elementary. Current principal Bob Mennonna is retiring.
An educator for 30 years, Bullock was a teacher at Nottingham and Taylor elementary schools before his appointment as principal at Henry Elementary in 1987. Seven years later, he moved to Randolph, where he has been for the last five years.
He holds an undergraduate degree from Thiel College in Greenville, Pa., and a master's degree in administration and supervision from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
Elliot S. Johnson, a history teacher at Wakefield High School, has received the Virginia and Arlington Branch "Educator of the Year" award from the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The award was presented on April 21 at the AAUW Convention in Norfolk, Va. Johnson will be honored locally at a luncheon on May 11 at the Army-Navy Country Club.
