Centreville is Best at State Science Fair

Three students from Centreville High School won the team category as well as "Best in Fair" at the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair, held April 13 on the campus of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland.

Seniors Devin McCorry, Huy Lam and Alexandre Poliakov won for a project called "Project Pathfinder: The Development of a Genetic Navigation Algorithm." As a result of winning "Best in Fair," all three students are eligible for a $5,000 scholarships from Randolph-Macon College and will represent Virginia at the prestigious Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Louisville, KY, in May. The three will also split a $150 cash prize.

More than 270 high school students with more than 235 projects competed in the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair. All of these students are winners from one of the 15 regional fairs held in the state.
