Nomination applications are now available for the Northern Virginia Family Service CARE (Companies As Responsive Employers) Award, which recognizes Northern Virginia business that promote a positive work-life balance for employees. The deadline for submission is July 12. Applications will be evaluated by the Northern Virginia Family Service. CARE Award winners will be recognized at an awards breakfast to be held Thursday, November 14 at the Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner. The Herndon Festival Committee is now accepting applications from Town of Herndon fitness-related business for the 10k/5k Fitness Expo at the 22nd Herndon Festival. The 10k/5k Fitness Expo will take place on Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday June 2 after the race, at the Herndon Community Center. For more information, call 703-435-6868.

The Herndon Festival Committee is now accepting applications from Town of Herndon dog-related businesses for the second K9-2k Doggie Expo at the 22nd Herndon Festival. The K9-2k Doggie Expo will take place on Saturday, June 1 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Herndon Community Center For more information, call 703-435-6868.

Starting April 22, web browsers can visit http://redcross.ebay.com to bid on items ranging from exotic vacations to high tech gadgets and sports memorabilia. Nearly 50 Red Cross Chapters nationwide will participate in this year's auctions. This year there will be two 10-day auctions The first between April 22 and May 2, and the second between April 29 and May 9. All money raised will support vital Red Cross disaster relief services. The Herndon Rotary Club is accepting applications for its annual scholarship programs: one $6,000 four-year college scholarship ($1,500 per year), and one $2,000 two-year college or vocational scholarship ($1,000 per year). Applicants must be graduating seniors at Herndon High School or any high school senior residing within the Town of Herndon. Applicants will be judged on the basis of citizenship, extra curricular activities, two essays, letters of recommendation, and scholarship. Deadline for submission is May 3. Applications can be obtained at the Career Center at Herndon High School or calling Dr. Thomas Finley at 703-471-7810.

The Herndon Fortnightly Club is accepting applications for a one-year scholarship to individuals living in the greater Herndon area. Candidates should be accepted for entrance or enrolled in an educational institution. Candidates should write a one-page letter, without attachments, to The Herndon Fortnightly Club, explaining why the scholarship is needed, what career goals are being pursued, what academic institution has or will provide acceptance and comments relating to activities, community service and academic standing. The letter should be sent to Scholarships, c/o The Herndon Fortnightly Club, P.O. Box 55, Herndon, VA 20172-0055. Applications must be received by May 16.
