<sh>Two Budget Hearings Planned
<bt>The Herndon Town Council will hear public comment on the FY 2003 Town of Herndon budget on Tuesday, April 9 and Tuesday, April 23 at the 7:30 p.m. meetings held at the Town Council Chambers located at 765 Lynn Street. The levying of taxes on real estate is also on the agenda as is the appropriating of funds. Other agenda items include an application by Verizon for a grant of a telephone utility easement on Alabama Drive and a potential sale to Verizon of an underground utility easement affecting a part of Chandon Park.
<sh>Robbery Attempt Warded Off
<bt>Fairfax County Police are investigating an attempted robbery and simple assault which occurred in the 2500 block of Centreville Road in the Herndon area at about 8:45 p.m. on Monday, April 1. A 16-year-old Reston boy was walking behind a shopping center when he was approached by two men who demanded money. The boy refused and the two men began to hit the boy. The boy fought with the men until they fled the area. The victim was not injured. One suspect is described as Hispanic, between 19 and 20-years-old, five feet, nine inches tall, weighing 160 pounds with black hair, wearing khaki pants, black t-shirt and a black leather jacket. The other suspect is described as Hispanic, between 17 and 18-years-old, five feet, six inches tall, weighing 130 pounds with black hair, wearing black jeans, a white t-shirt and Timberland boots. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
<sh>Arts Center April Meetings
<bt>The Herndon Cultural Arts Center Advisory Committee will meet as a full committee three times during April, Wednesday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in a joint session with the Town Council and Wednesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. Each meeting will be held at the Town Council building located at 765 Lynn Street.
<sh>Commission Seeks Public Input
<bt>The state Commission on the Future of Virginia's Environment will hold a public hearing on Monday, April 29, at 2 p.m., in the Senate Room A of the General Assembly Building in Richmond. The commission, which is charged with examining the status and funding of Virginia's natural resources/environmental programs, is asking the public to suggest natural resource/environmental issues that the commission should examine as part of the work plan for the coming year. The commission is composed of 10 members of the General Assembly, seven citizens and the secretary of natural resources. Those persons wishing to speak during this public hearing may register in advance by calling Patty Lung, Senate Clerk's Office, at 804-698-7450.
