A Friday afternoon fire caused an estimated $100,000 damage to Engleside Apartments on Village Way in Mount Vernon.
Fire and Rescue units responded to a two-alarm fire in a garden apartment complex March 29. Upon arriving at 8607 Village Way, fire personnel encountered heavy fire coming from a third floor apartment balcony of the six unit building. A third floor apartment sustained signficant fire damage. Five other units received heavy smoke and water damage.
Responders had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.
All occupants escaped without injury and all have been temporarily displaced. The Red Cross is assisting two adults and three children.
According to officials, discarded smoking materials ignited the fire.
