The Westfield Bulldogs hosted the Yorktown Patriots in Chantilly on Nov. 17 in the Class 6 D Regional semifinal.
Westfield opened scoring with only 42 seconds to play in the opening quarter when quarterback Matthew Jenks would score the first of his 3 touchdowns on a 1 yard touchdown run.
With 7:08 left in the 2nd quarter Westfield would add to their lead when Jenks would run in for his second touchdown. Westfield's lead was now 14-0. Yorktown would get on the board with 3:45 before halftime with Hudson Greene's pass to Chris Monticeno from 9 yards. The Westfield lead was now cut in half 14-7. However Jenks would score his 3rd touchdown just 32 seconds before halftime to give the Bulldogs a two touchdown lead, 21-7.
In the 3rd quarter Michael Merritt would be the benefactor of another Hudson Greene touchdown pass. Again, Yorktown was within a touchdown, 21-14. But it was Westfield's defense that saved the game and a potential tying score in the closing minutes deep into Bulldogs territory.
With the win Westfield (9-3) advances to play James Madison in Vienna on 11-25 for the Class 6D Region Final.
