Addressing Concerns, Forming Bonds
THIS YEAR, as Lee District residents know, is shaping up to be quite precarious, with a budget crisis and myriad other issues ranging from transportation to land use looming largely. In response to this growing concern, their elected officials sought to offer some reassurance and guidance at a town hall meeting Saturday, Jan 30. Hosted by Supervisor Jeff McKay (D-Lee), Del. Mark Sickles (D-43) and Sen. George Barker (D-39), the meeting gave constituents the opportunity to hear from their representatives about plans for the year, including how they plan to tackle some of the larger issues facing the state and county. West Springfield graduate Jeri Sager returns to Wolf Trap for a ‘homecoming’ show this Saturday.
JERI SAGER'S FAMILY didn’t know she could sing until she was in high school. "We were sitting around the dinner table one night and Jeri said she was going to be doing a solo during church the next Sunday," said her sister, Jo Gilley, who now lives in Chicago. The puzzled faces turned to slack-jawed astonishment when Sager, then in her early teens, belted out a song Barbara Streisand sang in the movie "Funny Girl." Read more...

Supervisor Jeff McKay hosts the Lee District Open House
HEAVY SNOW AND slippery roads may have put a damper on many activities across the region last Saturday, but it did not prevent Supervisor Jeff McKay (D-Lee) and a few dozen friends from enjoying the afternoon. McKay hosted his annual Lee District Open House on Jan. 30, at the Franconia Government Center, offering district residents a chance to meet their elected officials and other county staff members and sample a smorgasbord of snacks made by the Edison Academy's Culinary students.
